The Grapefruit Diet, an effective diet to lose weight

The  Grapefruit diet is one of those known as ” monodiet “. This type of diet is based on the consumption mainly of a single food, in this case grapefruit; although this fruit is not eaten solely and exclusively.

This diet became famous in the 1950s in Hollywood as it was the most popular diet among stars . With this diet you can lose 5 kilos in a week . But it should not be extended for more than three days, as it is a diet very poor in nutrients that can cause damage to the body.

Based on taking care of the diet and carrying out balanced and healthy diets; We have decided to make two types of grapefruit diet, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs. In the first place, fast grapefruit diet, which is the most famous, as well as strict since there are three consecutive days with a low caloric intake and with grapefruit as the main protagonist.

And on the other hand, a more flexible version in which we will benefit from all the properties of grapefruit to lose weight, but we will do it in a more sustained and healthy way. Without putting our health at risk due to a low caloric intake.

What does grapefruit give us?

First of all, it is very important to highlight the properties of grapefruit, in order to understand the effectiveness of such a diet. Grapefruit, also known as taronja in much of America, is a citrus fruit the size of an orange; or a little older. The color of its skin is yellow and its pulp can be found in various orange, yellowish and even reddish tones; according to the variety of the fruit.

The nutritional composition of grapefruit stands out for its content of vitamin C and folic acid , beta-carotene, antioxidants , potassium and magnesium, in addition to its abundant acids. It is a less sweet fruit than the orange, also less acidic but more bitter.

That is why it is not to the taste of many people. If you are determined to carry out this diet, try several varieties, because you must like it a lot. Otherwise you will immediately hate the diet and abandon it.

Grapefruit is a fruit that does not contain fat , it is rich in vitamin C and very low in sodium , which is why at a nutritional level it is very interesting for diets with low energy intake .

Its high content in water and fiber give it one of the most important virtues, its capacity for satiety.

It is very satiating , it reduces your appetite dramatically, which is why it is easier to do the diet, because it controls your appetite , taking away the desire to eat.

Numerous studies confirm that it is very good at keeping hair and nails strong , as well as preventing aging. It helps in the healing and regeneration of wounds due to its high content of vitamin C.

The intake of half a grapefruit provides our body with more than 150 phytonutrients, the vast majority of which are flavonoids that help the heart.

It is a powerful accelerator of metabolism, effectively reduces cholesterol and blood pressure , as well as intervenes in the processes of rheumatic pain, reducing it considerably. Increases the activity of white blood cells which generates greater organic defenses.

It is a powerful body cleanser and stimulates liver function. It is also attributed a fat burning enzymatic function , so it is of great interest to lose weight.

How does the grapefruit diet work?

As we have commented previously, the grapefruit diet works to lose weight due to its fat-burning effect and its satiating action .

To benefit from all the properties of grapefruit, both to lose weight and for the proper functioning and development of our body, we have designed two types of grapefruit diet. The express grapefruit diet and the weekly grapefruit diet.

Here we leave you the guidelines for both, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Grapefruit Express Diet

This diet is a super fast diet that should only be carried out for 3 days , and always being consecutive to be able to clearly appreciate the effects of grapefruit consumption. It is a diet with a low caloric intake that will make us lose weight quickly.

Generally, since grapefruit is very satiating , you will eat very little and your body will have to burn the fat accumulated in the adipose tissue as energy reserves to get the energy that is necessary to face its daily and metabolic activity; therefore, you lose weight quickly.

The pattern is very simple and should be repeated like this for three consecutive days .

  • Breakfast : Half a grapefruit accompanied by coffee or tea (without sugar).
  • Lunch : Half a grapefruit with two boiled eggs and a cucumber and tomato salad dressed with lemon or vinegar.
  • Snack : A whole wheat toast with turkey ham and grapefruit juice.
  • Dinner : Half grapefruit with salad of lettuce garnished with lemon and apple cider vinegar and 150 grams of grilled chicken or turkey breast.

– You should drink 2 liters of water a day and unsweetened infusions.

It is a diet that can be boring, it is also unbalanced because it does not provide all the necessary nutrients, but it produces a rapid weight loss .

It cannot be prolonged in time as it would cause damage to the body. There is the same variant, extending it a week, but it is too risky for health. And remember that the important thing is to lose weight in a healthy way, not putting our health at risk. The weight lost in record time is recovered more easily.

Grapefruit weekly diet

This other variety of the grapefruit diet  consists of making a basic diet , in which we consume over 1500 calories a day and consuming all kinds of products avoiding fats, fried foods, sweets and sauces. That is, a balanced diet with which we will combine the shock system. A very effective system to lose weight quickly.

To carry out this diet, we will easily clash with the grapefruit express diet , three alternate days for a week, (this version becomes more bearable and is a more balanced diet to be able to experience the multiple benefits of grapefruit).
