What is the genotype diet based on?

The Genotype Diet was created by Dr. D’Adamo , a renowned American doctor specializing in natural medicine.

This diet aims to find an intelligent solution to lose weight and improve health , depending on the blood group that each person has, since according to its criteria the blood group determines the personality of the individual because it is written in their genetic identification , in their DNA .

Each person is different and processes food in a unique way, so you need a tailored diet, this is the basis of this diet. The genotype diet is complemented with a specific and exhaustive study of the person and their peculiarities.

The data is complemented with a family history study related to data related to predisposition to diseases , a history of morbid obesity, problems related to diabetes or insulin resistance and other problems derived from an inadequate diet such as cardiovascular diseases or allergies .

Unlike other diets, the genotype diet is a change in people’s eating style, it is not a diet to be carried out during a certain time, but rather a life change that allows us to adapt our diet to our needs by making our body assimilate the foods that interest you most correctly.

In this way, the genotype diet encourages the preferred consumption of those foods and nutrients that benefit the body and eliminates those that harm it. Thus, we consume those foods that make us lose weight or maintain our ideal weight , and thus achieve an overall optimal health; Since feeling good physically and mentally will make us observe in any modification the effects that are produced in our organism, because we will have learned how our organism works and what feels good and what does not.

How is the genotype determined?

Following the  study of the genes of each person and according to the results obtained in his study, Dr D’Adamo establishes that there are 6 different genotypes . It classifies them based on trades, among which we find the following: hunter , gatherer , teacher , explorer , warrior and nomad .

The genotype is determined according to different factors to take into account, among which we highlight the blood group , the hormonal influence and the impact of stress on prenatal development and the genetic information inherited from our ancestors and the response of the environment.

Types of genotypes What is mine and what foods should I eat?

This genotype responds to those men and women who have slim shapes and muscles. They have a delicate digestive system, very prone to allergies and high acidity.

They can be sensitive to wheat and, therefore, to gluten, which is why celiacs are generally in this group.

Blood group: Only group O

  • Foods that benefit them :

Meat is very beneficial for them, in fact it is vital for this type of genotype. This genotype consumes and assimilates fats correctly, and should not worry about the effects of fats on their body, because they metabolize fats very well.

The fish that the hunter should preferably consume is that rich in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids to increase their ability to respond to oxidative stress. They better assimilate monounsaturated oils such as hemp or walnut oil or fish oils.

The blueberries , grapefruit, turnips and chicory are fruits and vegetables that benefit them most, this does not mean not to eat other kinds of fruits, and vegetables.

The cereals that are best for them are rice and quinoa. Among the spices that benefit them the most are curry, turmeric and cinnamon as they benefit the immune system.

  • Foods that harm them :

Dairy is bad for most hunters, but not all dairy. They can eat highly aged cheeses. They should avoid drinking coffee. They should be careful with carbohydrates, especially with flour and wheat because they are sensitive to gluten .

Gatherers are prone to conserve calories as stored fat, they have a constitution of rounded shapes. They are usually people of short stature and stout complexion.

Blood group: O or B

  • Foods that benefit them :

Red meat (preferably lamb and goat), fish such as herring, sardines and red mullet (generally all blue fish). In the oils, we will preferably consume walnut or olive. The carbohydrates they eat should be low on the glycemic index, such as quinoa, millet, rice bran, or basmati rice.

Among the fruits, raspberry and guava are highly recommended for this genotype. Among the spices, thermogenic spices such as cinnamon , parsley and turmeric should be preferred to accelerate their metabolism .

  • Foods to avoid :

Mainly carbohydrates, flour, bread and pasta mainly, in addition to legumes, rice and fruits with a higher glycemic load. Avoid feta, manchego and mozarella cheese. Avoid avocado, kale, and cucumber.

They can consume coffee but in moderation, it is preferable that they drink tea.

Strong, vigorous and stable, this is the genotype of balance.

Blood group : A to AB

  • Foods that benefit you :

Among the meats, the healthiest for this genotype are goat meat and lamb. They also benefit from those rich in phytonutrients (algae) and vegetables. White fish is the best option for this genotype, since it contributes to good intestinal function, as well as the consumption of blue cheeses and dairy ferments.

The oils should preferably be short chain fatty acids such as butter. The consumption of avocado, Brussels sprouts and citrus fruits such as lemon, orange or grapefruit is highly recommended.

The spices used will preferably be basil, garlic, oregano and rosemary.

  • Foods to avoid :

Refined carbohydrates such as white flour and simple sugars, chicken, etc. This is because they are prone to bacteria proliferation problems, and therefore they should eat foods that leave little residue. For this reason, the most advisable carbohydrates in your case are quinoa, or flaxseed.

Avoiding white rice and wheat, as well as refined flours. They can consume coffee, green tea, grapefruit juice, pineapple juice, almond milk, etc.

The consumption of probiotic foods is advisable to strengthen your immune system, which is very weak to the proliferation of bacteria.

The explorer usually enjoys a greater longevity than the other genotypes, but with a bad old age due to its environmental and chemical hypersensitivity that the liver suffers due to the toxins spending much more time in it.

Blood group: it can be any type of blood. Generally, there are many cases with Rh negative.

  • Foods that benefit you :

Red meat, as well as poultry meat, mainly the best for this genotype is ostrich meat, the problem is really getting it because it is not excessively marketed, therefore people with this genotype usually consume partridge and quail.

In relation to fish, for this genotype the best is white fish such as sea bream and turbot, preferably wild. Fresh cheese, mozzarella and ricotta cheese are recommended.

Among the oils, the ones that are best for them are shea nut, rice bran and camelina. The most advisable carbohydrates for this genotype are millet and basmati rice.

Among the most beneficial fruits are wild berries such as raspberries and blueberries. And among the vegetables, the crucifers, the cabbages and the artichokes.

The spices that benefit them the most are coriander, garlic and thyme for their detoxifying effects They can drink tea but avoid coffee.

Coffee, wheat flour, pork, tuna, milk and seeds. They should avoid blue cheese and those that are fermented.

Slim and healthy during youth, in a period of their adult life they suddenly gain weight and have a hard time losing weight, this is something that happens very frequently, generally motivated by a decrease in physical activity.

Blood group: A and AB

  • Foods that benefit you :

The consumption of fish, both blue and white, is preferable. Cheeses should preferably be fresh. As for the oils, you should choose walnut or wheat germ oil. The carbohydrates should be chosen according to glycemic index, preferably those of low GI.

We leave you below a list of foods classified by their GI , for more information .

Among the fruits and vegetables we will prefer crucifers such as cauliflower or broccoli, as well as Brussels sprouts. Preferably fruits such as strawberries, apples, mango, etc. The spices should tend to accelerate the metabolism so we will choose garlic, cinnamon, oregano or ginger .

They benefit from the consumption of chocolate, the purer it is the better. Among the drinks are blueberry juice, coffee, black tea and red wine.

  • Foods to avoid :

Chicken, most red meats, butter, whole milk, and derivatives. Nor should they consume poultry meats. They should not consume pears, bananas or oranges.

This genotype is usual in Nordics, some Spanish and Jews, since its origin implied greater territorial displacements.

Blood group: B and AB

  • Foods that benefit them :

Red meat is the most recommended for this genotype, the amount of fat is not particularly worrying, so they can consume fatter meats such as veal. In fish, white fish such as hake, sea bream, lunina or cod are preferable. Soft cheeses are the most beneficial for this genotype, such as Camembert or Brie cheese.

With regard to fats, they should consume short chain fatty acids such as olive oil and flaxseed oil. The favorite spices are basil and parsley. Among the vegetables, they should eat cabbages, carrots and crucifers such as cauliflower or broccoli. The most suitable fruits are blueberries and nectarines.

  • Foods to avoid :

They should mainly avoid the consumption of products with gluten, and rye flour as well as chicken and tomato. They can consume coffee but always in moderation, as well as beer (due to gluten). They can drink wine, and watermelon juice is very healthy for this genotype.

How can I know my genotype?

The genotype study includes a complete body evaluation , some body measurements and a tolerance test, and a complete analysis of the family history together with the blood type we have. It must be done by a nutritionist who specializes in the genotype diet, which will make a personalized eating plan for your genotype.

It is not a very expensive study, but there are those who prefer to test, according to their blood group, which genotype they are better in, discarding those genotypes that do not fit into their characteristics.

What results does the genotype diet offer?

It is a personalized diet , since each person metabolizes and assimilates food differently and therefore it is assumed that it is a diet that is perfectly adapted to the needs of the patient, thus offering a better state of health after implantation.

It is a diet, which does not have a specific duration, but is a change in lifestyle to find a balance that allows us to benefit from the foods that best suit us, and thus ensure that our body develops correctly.

Does the genotype diet help you lose weight?

Of course yes, the body is perfectly designed to maintain its ideal weight , as long as those foods that the body tolerates correctly are consumed. Many times we get fat by eating what we should not, therefore, the genotype diet will help you lose weight and feel better .

As soon as you eliminate the foods that harm your genotype, and include those that benefit you in your diet, your body will begin to make the corresponding adjustments to keep the metabolism active and burn the calories that are not consumed.

In fact, if we look closely at each genotype, it is like a personality type, associated with an attitude; In other words, it is also associated with physical wear , it is not the same foods that characterize a nomad or a hunter, as a teacher. The foods are distributed by genotypes taking into account the daily activity. We will have to adjust the amounts of these foods, taking into account our caloric consumption .

As it is a balanced diet, it does not have a rebound effect . There is a progressive and healthy weight loss.
