Mayo Clinic Diet, an effective diet

This  Mayo diet  is one of the  most famous  since it was believed that it came from the prestigious American clinic that bears its name. But it is not like that, the clinic has never wanted to be linked with this diet since they bet on a personalized treatment of patients and adapted to their needs, but in the same way, this diet has made its place in the world of diets and has many followers.

It is a  hypocaloric diet   since between 600 and 900 calories are consumed daily. It is a hyperproteic diet   since more than 50% of the food eaten is protein. It is poor in carbohydrates and fats, although it does not restrict carbohydrates to the limit, which is interesting for weight loss systems without rebound effect.

The biggest advantage of this mayo diet is that it is one of the so-called ” fat burning diet ” so that  weight is  normally  lost  very  quickly , in part due to the loss of retained fluids and because the protein makes us full quickly and we eat less.

How does the Mayo Clinic Diet work?

The diet is basically composed of meat, fish, vegetables, fruits and eggs, which is the star product of this diet.

The only drinks allowed are water, coffee and herbal teas.

  • You should drink about 3 liters of water a day.

  • Do not eat between meals except teas and infusions.

  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages.

Contraindications or possible side effects

These types of fast diets or that restrict some food group more than normal or enhance others in an exaggerated way, as is the case of hyperproteic diets that excessively restrict carbohydrates or fats; they usually have a high rebound effect . That is, it is easy to regain the lost weight after abandoning the diet and starting to eat regularly.
